Here's a take that'll piss some people off

Short form will never get you past $1M per year.

Not the way you're doing it, anyway.

Chopping up a podcast you recorded with your co-founder on a webcam isn't a content strategy.

Here's what I want to cover:

  • Why the foundation matters more than the clips

  • What 6 million views taught me about how strategic short form actually is

  • The conversion problem nobody wants to talk about

The Actionable Takeaway

Pull up your last 10 shorts right now.

If every single one is a clip of something else, that's your answer.

You don't have a short form strategy. You have a repurposing hobby.

So do this instead:

Take the hour you were going to spend clipping and put it into one long-form video.

One video that actually speaks to a buyer beats 10 clips that speak to nobody.

And if you're keeping short form, write it from scratch.

Every word gets its own decision, or don't bother.

When the Foundation Sucks, the Shorts Suck

Founders tell me all the time that they want to scale past $1M.

Some of them tell me they want to be a $10M business.

Then they hit record on a podcast with a coworker, upload it, and clip it into shorts.

Brother, that's going to do absolutely nothing for you.

Now, I already know the objection.

"But Alex Hormozi does this."

One, he's Alex Hormozi.

Everybody already knows who he is.

Two, every podcast he's on is genuinely good.

Good production quality, good guests, great questions.

You and your co-founder look like two 20-year-olds who just bought a webcam and set it up in a basement.

The podcast was low effort to begin with. When the foundation sucks, the shorts suck.

Short Form Is More Strategic Than You Think

Here's the part that gets missed.

Even when the long form is genuinely good, it's very hard to pull clippable shorts out of it unless you filmed specifically for repurposing.

And to get truly high level clips, you need to pay somebody at a strategist level.

Not a clipper.

A strategist.

For context, we did short form for a while.

We got close to 6 million views on Instagram.

The one thing we figured out is how much more strategic short form is than people assume.

We'd spend over an hour writing a single short-form script, because every word mattered that much.

The only thing repurposing actually saves you is ideation. Everything else still has to be done properly.

Nobody Hands You a Credit Card After a Short

And then there's the part that actually matters for your business.

Short form just doesn't convert.

Even if you get somebody to watch an entire short, they aren't reaching for their credit card at the end of it.

But get somebody to watch an entire B2B long-form video and they're one real step closer to buying.

If they haven't already booked a call with you.

That's the whole difference.

One builds attention.

The other builds a pipeline.

And if you're trying to get past $1M, you need the second one.
